Pre & Post Surgery
Prepare for surgery and optimise your recovery with our comprehensive pre- and post-surgery management program.
Pre-Op Preparation
Research shows that engaging in pre-surgical exercise programs leads to better post-surgery outcomes. By strengthening muscles and improving cardiovascular capacity beforehand, patients are better equipped for the rehabilitation process after surgery.
Our team offers pre-surgical guidance on equipment and aids that may be necessary post-surgery.
level 1
- Psychological readiness for return to play and subjective knee outcomes
- Review of surgical details, rehab to date, goals from rehabilitation
- Strength testing: maximal quadriceps, hamstring, as well as leg press strength scores
- Biomechanical Assessment: Utilising slow-motion video capture to objectively examine movement efficiency
- Balance and Proprioception: Y-Balance testing captured
- Feedback and report on early stage rehab and important areas to improve before progressing to next stages
- Decision making on return to running, and higher level rehab activities given
level 2
- Psychological readiness for return to play and subjective knee outcomes
- Additional power and rate of force development measures added to maximal strength testing
- Running analysis using ViMove Software
- Agility and change of direction movement control added
- Feedback on testing and decision making on focus areas for sports specific rehabilitation and return to play decision-making.
level 3
This is usually the final test on returning to play, or is performed after returning to play to ensure that rehabilitation outcomes are maintained and that the risk of injury is minimized as much as possible. This is especially pertinent as the biggest risk of re-injury is seen in the first year of return to play (5).
Post-Op Getting Back On Track
Following surgery, our rehabilitation focuses on improving joint range of motion and strengthening surrounding structures to restore peak health and functionality. Our team of Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists collaborate closely with your surgeon and healthcare team throughout both pre and post-surgery stages to ensure a patient-centred approach and optimal outcomes.
Post-operative care may commence with manual therapy guided by our physiotherapists, progressing through hydrotherapy and into strength rehabilitation with our Exercise Physiology team.
Let us support you on your journey to recovery, guiding you every step of the way towards a healthier, more active life.
