BPPV (Vestibular) Physiotherapy

At PROmotion Health, we excel in vestibular rehabilitation, addressing issues related to the inner ear’s vestibular system, which plays a crucial role in balance, coordination, and eye control. Our skilled physiotherapists are trained to assess and diagnose BPPV and perform techniques like the Epley manoeuvre to effectively treat BPPV.

What does an appointment involve?

Our approach begins with a comprehensive 45-minute assessment to identify the underlying causes of dizziness or vertigo. Based on the assessment findings, we tailor a personalised treatment plan to address your specific needs. Vestibular physiotherapy may include habituation exercises to desensitise the vestibular system, eye-head coordination exercises to improve gaze stability, and balance and gait exercises to enhance stability and mobility.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a common condition that we treat, it is caused by small calcium carbonate particles dislodging within the inner ear. This leads to positional vertigo, particularly when lying flat or changing positions.

Vestibular physiotherapy can involve:

Re-positioning techniques

These techniques are used for a specific inner ear (vestibular) condition known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). This condition results in significant symptoms of vertigo when changing position, such as when lying down or rolling over in bed. Techniques such as the Epley manoeuvre can successfully treat BPPV but should be performed by your physiotherapist with specific skills in vestibular rehabilitation.

For BPPV, re-positioning techniques such as the Epley manoeuvre are utilised under the guidance of our skilled clinicians. If necessary, we collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure you receive comprehensive care.
